Marrow and Marjorie have been busy!!..........
She's so small and so cute..........I'll be posting regular updates of her progress.
She's our first home bred Marginata.........even though she wasn't planned!! :)

Here's Marjorie,our latest addition to our snail family!!....She arrived Yesterday and is a rescue from Brixton Market In London...She's a Marginata var Ovum-or commonly known as a Margie.

These pictures were taken as soon as we unpacked her,as you can see she was eager to investigate her new home!:)

Jade x Rodatzi babies-update!!

So here's what's left of the batch so far!!...
Normal shells on the left and yellow(rodatzi) shells on the right......and albino bodies shared between the 2 groups.
So at the moment there are just 2 snails that look like they have yellow shells and albino bodies,fingers crossed they stay like that!! :)

So look what we found the other day!!.....yep it's an Albino baby from the Jadatzi litter.....and we've since discovered there's 3 others like him as well, what's even better is their shells look pretty unmarked as well but that could change as they grow,we'll wait and see!
There's also a normal shelled one with an albino body,then the rest of them look like normal Fulica babies....

So here are a few of the hatchlings at just 5 days old!!......It's too early to tell what colour their shell of body will be,but aren't they just so so cute!!....

Came home today to find Eggs in the Jadatzi tank!!!!......Just finished scooping them out in their own tub... I won't be hatching them all off as we don't have room for loads of babies but will certainly be keeping a few!
Fingers crossed they hatch ok and fingers crossed we may get an interesting mix of different coloured babies!! :)

So we arrived home last Saturday night to find these 2 guys having some snailie 'fun'!!These are 2 of the Jade x Rodatzis,so hatchlings should be interesting!!...We may well end up with some albino babies!!

Well I'm not having the best week.........Both Godzilla and funny little Phyllis died this week,I'm absolutely gutted!

So here's Phyllis at 8 months old....she doing great!!
Growing really well and is best friends with Marrow the margie......Surprisingly as well I've been catching a glimpse of her reproductive organs protruding from her neck every now and again...which is really surprising to say she is such an odd shape,I really thought she would just be a runt,bless her!..It looks like she's really fit and healthy despite her deformed shell... :)

Donna & Kebab at 10 Months....

So here's Donna And Kebab at 10 months old....Donna is just getting slimed on by a Jadatzi baby...
I weighed them both today and there is a huge difference between them still, Donna weighs in at just 15 grams!
And Kebab is racing ahead at 47 grams!
I moved them from the 3 foot tank to a smaller one a few months ago and since then they are doing really well and growing the best they have since i got them......:)

So this little guy/gal is nearly 3 months old and is a cross between an Achatina Fulica Hamillei F. Rodatzi and an Achatina Fulica F. 'White jade' ........other wise nicknamed a Jadatzi!

So a rodatzi has a yellowish albino type shell and the Jade has a normal shell but with a albino body.....so with this little guy being a cross it should be quite interesting what he turns into!!
We're guessing he's going to look like a normal Hamillei this time around,but there's 3 of them,so when bred again they may throw out an albino bodied snail!?

Anyway for now him and his siblings (who are nameless at the moment) have a lot of growing to do...so watch this space! :)

Marrow!

This is Marrow,he's an Archachatina marginata var. marginata,or more commonly known as a Margie.

He's approx about 3 years old and measures 17cm in shell length....he's HUGE!!

So he's just moved into the 3ft tank with Jim and Phyllis the fulicas!

Kebab...update

This is Kebab,the Tiger Snail (achatina achatina) ....he's 9 months old and still rather small...him and his sister are very slow growing,though I've been told that's not unusual for this species. Donna his sister is very very small though,so i may move her back to the nursery tank to keep an eye on her growth.
As for Kebab though..you can see from the photo that his big stripes are starting to appear!! cool!!

So here's Phylis at 4 months old...she's growing quite well.you can see from the pictures that her whorles have stayed the same but the rest of her shell is growing quite normal.
Her shell is rather rough looking and has quite a rough texture compared to her siblings but despite her her little oddities,she's doing very well!!! :)

Fixed Shell...Super Fast!!

So i went to check on Olive this morning and I'm really amazed at what i saw!!!
Check out the super fast shell repair!!..I knew she would fix fairly quick but never expected it to be this fast,she only broke her shell 3 days ago and has already made a brand new piece to cover the hole!!!!! Excellent!!! :)

Broken Shell!

So look at what silly Olive did 2 days ago!!!
I opened the lid for feeding time and she decided to fall off the roof into the tank and knocked her shell on a piece of mopani wood that sits in there.....she's taken a right chunk out of her shell,but she didn't seem too concerned about the whole thing!! Lucky for snails,their shells can self heal as long they have a constant supply of calcium,which they have in the form of cuttlefish!
I'll keep updating Olives progress as she heals herself! :)

So this is Thor and Olive,brother and sister to little Phyllis!As you can see they are huge compared to her and are growing really fast,they look really healthy and will soon be the size of their dad Jim! :)

So little Phyllis is now 2 1/2 months old and she's growing slowly!! Bless her she's such a cutie!
I've tried to take a picture from every angle,so you can see the odd shape of her shell,her bottom whorls have stopped growing so they look all compact and squashed together,so it's going to be very interesting to see how the rest of her shell will actually grow and fit in with the rest of it!?

Godzilla!

So this is the latest addition to my snail family...
Meet Godzilla, he's an Achatina Iredalei,or sometimes known as the Albino land snail or the Golden Land snail.
I'm guessing he's about 2 months old,going by his size and I have only got the one of this species,as they are the only land snail to give birth to live young instead of eggs.So the Iredalei population could get rather out of control with 2 of them.
He's also my early Christmas present from my boyfriend!! Lucky me... :) x

Phylis-update!

So Phylis is 6 week old now and doing great!!
She's obviously still not growing at the same rate as her siblings but she has grown quite alot for her...I'm really pleased with how she's coming along!!
and she's a right speedy mover bless her!!

This is phylis....she's from the same batch as Thor and Olive but as you can see she's alot smaller and quite an odd shape! Her shell seems to be growing rather oddly and not as fast as the others.
Hopefully this won't affect her and she'll be able to live a normal snailie life....but time will tell!

So yesterday my other big Fuli Vic died...:(

He'd gone 2 months without eating and finally he gave up,bless him.
Really gutted as it was only last week that his brother Bob died..

Hatchling snails!

Whoops! I missed a batch of eggs,laid by my Fulica Jim(naughty Jim).......They were already starting to hatch when I found them buried really deep in the substrate,so I froze the eggs that hadn't hatched yet and here's a pic of the 4 day old hatchlings that I've kept..although the photo only shows a few of them! There maybe around 30 in total but I haven't had a proper head
count yet!!

This is Jim!! He arrived friday morning and he's so so cute!!
I decided to get another Fulica to keep Bob company,seen as Vic has been in intensive care for 3 weeks and we don't know if he'll make it or not!
So Jim is about 3-4 years old,but as you can see from the 2nd picture,he is alot smaller than Bob who is 3 years old!

So they're just getting to know each other....happy snails!! :)

So Vic my biggest Fulica has been ill for the past 3 weeks! He's been looking on and off like this and hasn't eaten a thing.I give him warm baths to wake him up but he's just not interested in food and keeps retracting again.
He's also gone from weighing 11oz to just 7 1/2 oz.
So at the moment he's in a tank on his own,being kept extra warm,but not sure if he'll pull through or not :(

Just a quick update on my Tiger Snails....
They're growing nicely now, although Kebab is the biggest still,Donna has a bit of catching up to do!
They're loving cucumber at the moment and the odd piece of apple is a fave as well.They keep nibbling away at the cuttlefish as well to keep their shells growing. :)

My new tiny tiger snail babies certainly have alot of growing to do!.....here they are both sitting on a piece of cucumber...when fully grown,each one should have a shell measuring approx 14cm!!....
better get eating guys! :)

Here's Bob tucking into Yummy snail mix! Bought from the Snail Trail eBay shop,it consists of,sunflower kernels,hemp seed,oats,limestone flour and chicken mash.Soaked with a bit of water until it resembles porridge!
My GALS are 3 years old but this is the first time they've ever tried it and as you can tell it seems to going down rather well!

Here as promised,more Land Snail photos!
Just woke them up for a bit of a clean out,Bob's the one trying to make the great escape whilst the lids off!(he didn't get very far,I didn't let him slime up the walls!).
I treated them to a new house decoration today,bought them a piece of mopani wood to crawl upon!Not sure they're that impressed with so far?!
will let you know!Also bought them a bigger water dish,so they can go paddling together(they love it).

Well it's been a whole week since i wrote my car off and broke my finger and I'm well and truly fed up now!!!! I'm bored of not been able to do anything,my boyfriend even has to tie my bloody shoe laces every morning before he goes to work!!(bless him)
I've had to move my computer mouse to the other side of the keyboard because I'm having to do everything left handed and typing with just your left hand is not very easy!!!!
Anyway i should stop moaning now,that's enough whining from me!! Bla bla bla :)
